Icon Builder is a small, free Windows utility for creating proper multi-resolution .ico files for desktop apps, games and developer tools.

Drop in a PNG, JPG or existing ICO, check the source image, then build a Windows icon containing the sizes commonly used across Explorer, shortcuts, taskbars and application windows.

What it does

How to use

1. Extract the ZIP.
2. Run IconBuilder.exe.
3. Drop an image into the window or choose a file.
4. Click Build Windows ICO.
5. Save your finished .ico.

Why multi-resolution ICO matters

A Windows icon is not just one tiny image.

Windows may display the same application icon at very different sizes depending on where it appears. A proper ICO file contains multiple image sizes so the icon stays sharp in Explorer, shortcuts, application windows and other parts of Windows.

Icon Builder creates those sizes for you automatically.
